HeadingtonRuth Wilkinson
Ruth is a library manager and a UNISON steward. She has taken an active role in local organisations and activities over the last 20 years. She gives presentations to Thames Valley Police and chairs of Neighbourhood Action Groups on community involvement in neighbourhood policing. Her latest campaigns have been to save a sports facility and a local post office. She is pressing for improvements to facilities and services for local residents in Headington. "I would like to see decision-making devolved from the Town Hall to local neighbourhoods and groups working within their Area Committees" said Ruth. She is worried about the above inflation Council Tax rises inflicted upon residents of Oxford over the next three years by the Labour and Green parties which will unfairly disadvantage those on low incomes compared with those who are better off. "The Lib Dem team on the Council has worked hard to improve the City Council's value for money without harming front line services, and the latest Audit Commission report has highlighted the improvements that have been made". Ruth supports closer working of the police with local neighbourhoods, and she will work with the Area Committee, local people and local businesses to promote Headington as a District Centre. She supports greater community involvement in regeneration projects, and will support the extension of one-stop shop provision throughout the city, including access to non-city council services. She is also keen to ensure that a new licensing scheme will be introduced for landlords of houses which are let out to multiple occupants. 3 things to consider:
