Our Pledges To You

Oxford Liberal Democrats - Keeping Their Promises

During 2006-7 the Lib Dems delivered their 5 election pledges:

  • Clean Up the City - the Lib Dems promised to introduce Neighbourhood Action Teams to keep our communities cleaner and tidier.

  • Keep the Council Tax Down - the Lib Dems promised they would keep council tax down and manage council finances openly and efficiently.

  • 24 Hour Access - the Lib Dems promised they would introduce a 24 hour city helpline to improve access to services.

  • Give People more Say - the Lib Dems promised to devolve more power to Area Committees helping to put residents in charge of local services.

  • Improve Recycling - the Lib Dems promised to expand the recycling of garden waste, cardboard and plastics across the whole City.

During 2007-8 the Lib Dems delivered 5 more pledges:

  • Continue to Keep Council Tax Down - the Lib Dems aimed for just a 2% Council Tax rise for the next two years. This was proposed in the Lib Dem budget this year, but overturned by a Labour/Green coalition who doubled the rise.

  • Make the City Even Cleaner - the Lib Dems have made a good start but want to see the streets even cleaner.

  • Rejuvenate the City's Estates - the Lib Dems are working hard to revser decades of Labour neglect.

  • Reduce Council Energy Use - the Lib Dems are making sure that action on climate change starts at home.

  • A One-Stop Shop for Cowley - a further initiative to make access to the council easier across the City.

And for the 2008 election they are making 5 new pledges:

  • Keep the Council Tax down - by proposing a below inflation rise each year.

  • Improve private rented housing - by introducing a discretionary licensing scheme for houses in multiple occupation.

  • Further improve the recycling scheme - by piloting weekly collections of food waste.

  • Reduce crime and anti-social behaviour - by bringing PCSOs, Street Wardens, Park Rangers and housing estate staff to work as an integrated team covering every part of the city.

  • Help tackle climate change - by reducing the City Council's carbon footprint year on year.
