Dr Steve Goddard champions more funding for schools

Oxford East Liberal Democrats Parliamentary Candidate, Dr Steve Goddard is fighting for more funding for pupils from poorer backgrounds. The Liberal Democrats recently unveiled their plans for a £2.5bn boost to education funding, targeted at those pupils from the most disadvantaged areas.
Steve said "Over the last 13 years Labour have failed to make our country fairer. The gap between the rich and poor is greater than when the came into government in 1997. It is an absolute scandal that the poorest children were only half as likely to get five good GCSEs as other children."
"It is clear from all the evidence and exam results that children from poorer backgrounds are more likely to start school further behind and often fall further behind throughout their time in the education system."
"The current system is failing those children. We must invest more in education at an early stage to make sure every child gets the help they need to succeed. This money will mean smaller class sizes and more catch up tuition. Giving all our children a fair start in life is absolutely crucial to creating a society where everyone has a chance to reach their full potential"
