Steering Group for Headington road works "not needed"?

5.49.22pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 23rd Jun 2009

At today's County Cabinet meeting, the Conservative administration ignored a request from the Liberal Democrats to allow local councillors to attend meetings of the former Steering Group for Headington and Marston Transport. Instead, they decreed that the group was no longer necessary.

Roz Smith, Lib Dem County Councillor for Barton & Churchill - which includes part of the London Road, Headington road scheme - said, "This informal Steering Group meant that the local members were kept informed about the extensive improvements/plans for the London Road, Headington area and could have some real input representing local people.

"I don't think that local residents will take kindly to being told their elected representatives have no say in these multi-million pound improvements!"
